Each spring, we celebrate our students during Senior Recognition Night, where over $300,000 in scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors. Applications for these local scholarships will open in February.

Senior Recognition Night Scholarship Information
Senior Recognition Night is held each spring and awards over 60 scholarships to Butler seniors. All applications will be made available to seniors on February 2, 2026 at 8:00 AM. Applications are completed and submitted digitally and must be received by March 6, 2026 at 11:59 PM, unless otherwise noted.

On this night, the prestigious Theodore K. Vogeley Memorial Scholarship is also awarded. The application for this scholarship is administered through the principal's office. The application period is March 15 through April 15, and materials are found on the BSHS website's main page.
This year’s Senior Recognition Night will take place on Tuesday, May 19th, 2026. Invitations will be sent to students who will be recognized at this event.

Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship
The Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship is open to Current high school seniors who are citizens of the United States and planning on attending a four-year undergraduate degree program next year. Applicants do not need to be related to a member of the Elks. Application materials and information is found on their website.
Applications are due November 12, 2025.
Tri-County Workforce Investment Board and Artificial Intelligence Scholarship
The Tri-County Workforce Investment Board will be awarding $2,000 Artificial Intelligence/Robotics Scholarships to students in Armstrong, Butler, or Indiana Counties. Students attending post-secondary education for degrees, certificates, or programs in robotics/AI are encouraged to apply. Students may be attending trade schools, community colleges, colleges, or universities.

Hagan Scholarship
The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship designed to provide the opportunity to help high-achieving, goal-driven students graduate college debt-free. The scholarship provides up to $7,500 each semester for up to eight consecutive semesters. Eligible applicants must be graduating high school seniors with at least a 3.50 GPA, demonstrate financial need, and plan to attend an eligible four-year college or university. Recipients are also required to complete a minimum of 240 hours of supervised work from January 1, 2026 to September 1, 2026.

ELLWOOD Industrial Maintenance Scholarship Program
The ELLWOOD Industrial Maintenance Scholarship Program will award multiple $10,000 scholarships to students planning to attend an accredited trade school, college, or university after graduation. This opportunity is open to 2026 high school graduates or GED test completers who are interested in earning a certificate or degree in Mechatronics or a related industrial maintenance program. Scholarship recipients will also have the opportunity to begin a full-time career with ELLWOOD through the Industrial Maintenance Development Program after completing their education.

The Community Foundation of Western PA & Eastern OH
The Community Foundation of Western PA & Eastern OH currently offer more than 200 scholarship opportunities each year to support graduating high school seniors as they continue their education. These scholarships are funded by generous donors who want to invest in the next generation of leaders, whether by honoring a loved one, supporting a specific school, or recognizing students with unique talents and qualities.

The Epilepsy Association of Western and Central PA (EAWCP)
The EAWCP offers scholarships to support graduating high school seniors diagnosed with epilepsy or a seizure disorder who plan to continue their education at a post-secondary institution.
A minimum of 10 scholarships totaling $11,500 will be awarded. The three students with the highest total scores will each receive $1,500, and the remaining seven recipients will each receive $1,000.

America250PA Semiquincentennial Scholarship Program
The America250PA Semiquincentennial Scholarship Program celebrates Pennsylvania’s enduring commitment to education and the 250th anniversary of the United States by awarding $250,000 in scholarships to deserving students for the 2026–2027 academic year. Pennsylvania high school seniors planning to attend an accredited Pennsylvania college or university are eligible to apply. A total of twenty-five $10,000 scholarships will be awarded across America250PA’s six regions, including up to twelve for community college students and up to thirteen for students attending post-secondary colleges or universities.

Horatio Alger Scholarship Application
The Horatio Alger Scholarship supports students who demonstrate integrity, perseverance, and resilience in overcoming adversity and who have a strong commitment to pursuing a bachelor’s degree. This scholarship is intended for students with financial need who are motivated to turn challenges into opportunity while pursuing their educational goals.
Juniors: Applications are due March 1, 2026. Eligible applicants must be full-time high school juniors in the United States, plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at an accredited nonprofit institution, demonstrate financial need (household income of $100,000 or less), be involved in co-curricular and community service activities, have a minimum GPA of 2.0, and be U.S. citizens.
Seniors: Applications are due February 15, 2026. Eligible applicants must be full-time high school seniors in the United States, plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree at one of the Horatio Alger Association’s target colleges or universities, demonstrate financial need (household income of $100,000 or less), be involved in co-curricular and community service activities, have a minimum GPA of 2.0, and be U.S. citizens.

John J. Baglier Scholarship
The John J. Baglier Memorial Fund provides financial support to graduating seniors at Butler Senior High School who demonstrate financial need and have participated in the school’s cross-country and/or track and field programs. This is a single-year scholarship with award amounts that vary. Eligible students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 and plan to attend an accredited vocational or technical trade school, or a 2- or 4-year college or university.

Starwood Scholarship Fund
The Starwood Scholarship Fund provides need-based financial support to graduating seniors from Butler High School and Knoch High School who have a cumulative GPA between 2.5 and 3.5. This multi-year scholarship offers an average award of $20,000 over four years, supporting students who plan to attend an accredited vocational or technical trade school or a 2- or 4-year college or university as a full-time student. Recipients must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and full-time enrollment to remain eligible.

The Robert R. Heaton Scholarship Fund
The Robert R. Heaton Scholarship Fund provides renewable scholarships for Butler County residents or graduates of a Butler County high school who plan to attend a vocational or technical trade school or a 2- or 4-year college or university anywhere in the United States. Award amounts vary. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

The Allegheny County Airport Authority Charitable Foundation Scholarship Fund
The Allegheny County Airport Authority Charitable Foundation Scholarship Fund provides scholarships of up to $5,000 for students pursuing a career in aviation. Applicants must reside in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington, or Westmoreland County and plan to attend an accredited aviation science program. A minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrated financial need are required. Preference is given to applicants with U.S. military service.

The Bradley “Ace” Schaffner Scholarship Fund
The Bradley “Ace” Schaffner Scholarship Fund provides an average award of $2,000 to students from Southwestern Pennsylvania pursuing a 4-year liberal arts degree. Applicants must attend an accredited 4-year college or university, have a cumulative high school GPA between 2.0 and 3.5, and demonstrate ambition for a helping profession. Preference is given to students who have taken a non-traditional academic path.

The Economic Opportunity Scholarship in Trade and Apprenticeship
The Economic Opportunity Scholarship in Trade and Apprenticeship provides up to $5,000 per year (renewable for up to two years) to Western Pennsylvania residents ages 18–25 pursuing a program in a traditional or modern trade. Applicants must attend an accredited trade school or 2-year college in Pennsylvania, demonstrate financial need, and have a minimum GPA of 2.5.

The Kennametal Scholarship Fund
The Kennametal Scholarship Fund supports graduating seniors from Southwestern Pennsylvania who demonstrate financial need and plan to pursue a STEM-related degree at an accredited four-year college or university. This multi-year scholarship (up to four years) is intended to broaden access to STEM opportunities, with preference given to students who have been disproportionately affected by systemic barriers to educational achievement. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.25.

The Professional Nurses of Southwestern PA Scholarship Fund
The Professional Nurses of Southwestern PA Scholarship Fund supports nursing students at all levels who reside in Southwestern Pennsylvania and are enrolled in an approved professional nursing program. Awards vary and are offered for one year, with previous recipients encouraged to reapply. Applicants must have completed at least one semester in their nursing program and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

BC3 Dual Enrollment Scholarship Opportunity
Butler County Community College (BC3) is offering a $500 scholarship to graduating seniors who have completed at least one BC3 Dual Enrollment course and choose to matriculate to BC3 in the fall following graduation. This scholarship was made possible through a generous gift from BC3 alumnus Mr. Gary Griwatz and is intended to encourage students to continue their educational journey at BC3.
Eligible students must enroll at BC3 as a degree-seeking student for the upcoming fall term to receive the award.

Future Providers Scholarship Program - Helping Our Helpers Scholarship Fund
The Helping Our Helpers – Future Providers Scholarship Program, offered by Bridge Builders Community Foundations in partnership with Southwest Behavioral Health Management (SBHM), provides financial support to graduating high school seniors and current undergraduate students pursuing degrees in clinical and behavioral health fields. Eligible fields include social work, counseling, psychology, human services, sociology, and chemical dependency.
Applicants must reside in Armstrong, Butler, Indiana, Lawrence, Washington, or Westmoreland counties. Award amounts are up to $5,000 per academic year, with a total award cap of $10,000 per student.

Top Tier Federal Credit Union Scholarship
Top Tier Federal Credit Union will award five $1,000 scholarships to eligible students for 2026. Applicants must be members of Top Tier Federal Credit Union and plan to enroll in a post-secondary institution for the upcoming school year. Eligible institutions include accredited 4-year colleges or universities, graduate schools, business schools, technical or trade schools, and community colleges.
Applicants must have maintained a minimum 2.0 GPA during their current high school or college enrollment. Scholarship recipients will be announced in May 2026.

Pennsylvania Elks Career and Technical Education Scholarship
The Pennsylvania Elks Career and Technical Education Scholarship provides financial support to Pennsylvania residents who plan to pursue vocational or technical training at an accredited post-secondary institution. Eligible programs must lead to a certificate, diploma, or associate degree.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens residing in Pennsylvania and graduating high school seniors in the Class of 2026. A total of 20 scholarships will be awarded (10 male and 10 female recipients) each receiving a one-time $1,500 award. Funds are sent directly to the student’s school and may be used for tuition, fees, books, supplies, and room and board if living in on-campus housing.
Applications are reviewed based on financial need, academic performance, work experience, and an essay. A complete application must include the guidance counselor form and transcript.

National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame (NIASHF) Scholarship
The Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame (NIASHF) awards scholarships to outstanding Western Pennsylvania high school senior student-athletes. In recent years, the organization has awarded four $4,000 scholarships, and has supported more than 230 students over the past 38 years. Scholarships are awarded based on high academic achievement, financial need, and varsity-level athletic participation.
Eligible applicants must be graduating high school seniors in the Class of 2026. The NIASHF does not discriminate on the basis of sex, creed, ethnic background, national origin, or physical disability.

Student-View Scholarship Program
The 2026 Student-View Scholarship Program is offering over $13,000 in scholarships to high school seniors planning to attend a four-year college, community or junior college, or career school. There are no minimum SAT/ACT scores or GPA requirements, no essay, and no lengthy application forms or fees.
To apply, students must complete a 15–20 minute online survey about colleges in their area at their website. Scholarships are awarded via a random drawing of all completed applications, and winners will be announced in May 2026.

Questeq Technology Award – Ron Main Scholarship for Education and Innovation
The Ron Main Scholarship for Education and Innovation honors Questeq founder Ron Main’s commitment to education, technology, and community leadership. Questeq will award six $1,000 technology scholarships to graduating seniors planning to enroll full-time at a two- or four-year college/university or technical school. Additional smaller awards may be granted, and students attending Robert Morris University may also be eligible for a one-time $500 award.
Eligible applicants must be graduating seniors from approved districts (including Butler Area School District), have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and demonstrate leadership, service, and involvement in school or community activities.

Red Barn Players Performing Arts Scholarship
The Red Barn Players offer an annual $1,000 scholarship to a graduating high school senior in the area. This scholarship is intended for students planning to major or minor in the performing arts—including theater, dance, voice, technical theater, theater design, music, or stagecraft—or for students who are active members in good standing of the Red Barn Theatre.
Applicants must submit a resume of performing arts credits and a one-page essay as part of the application. The award will be presented at a Red Barn production during the summer season. The Red Barn Players reserve the right to not award a scholarship, or to award more than one, in any calendar year.

Presidential 1776 Award (National Civics Scholarship Competition)
The Presidential 1776 Award is a national civics competition open to high school students that celebrates America’s upcoming 250th anniversary. This scholarship program challenges students to demonstrate their knowledge of the U.S. Constitution, the American founding, and core democratic principles such as individual liberty, self-governance, and equality.
Students will compete in three rounds of exams including multiple-choice and short-answer questions from February through June 2026, with assessments developed by the James Madison Memorial Fellowship Foundation. After local and regional rounds, the top four students from each region will advance to the national finals in Washington, D.C. in June 2026, where three national winners will receive scholarships totaling $250,000.

Jacob A. Grady Foundation Scholarship
The Jacob A. Grady Foundation awards a scholarship to a graduating senior from Knoch, Butler Area, Karns City, Mars Area, or Slippery Rock High School, or the Butler AVTS, who plans to attend a trade school or community college in the fields of Machine Tech, Heavy Equipment, or Welding. This scholarship recognizes students who demonstrate academic effort, involvement in extracurricular activities, and commitment to community or volunteer service.
Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, be a registered organ donor, and be enrolled in one of the eligible technical programs. Required application materials include the Student Application Information Sheet, official high school transcript, two letters of recommendation, and an essay. Scholarship funds are paid directly to the student’s school after enrollment is confirmed.

GFWC Jr. Women’s Club of Butler Scholarship
The General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) Jr. Women’s Club of Butler awards a $1,500 scholarship to a Butler County high school senior who demonstrates strong academic achievement and a commitment to community service. Applicants must have a minimum 3.75 GPA and be actively involved in service organizations throughout high school.

The Hermine Solt Student Scholarship
The Pennsylvania Association of Educational Office Professionals (PAEOP) welcomes all qualified 12th grade students attending PA schools to submit an application for the 2026 Hermine Solt Student Scholarship. This $500 scholarship was established in 1992 for the purpose of aiding students in Pennsylvania to pursue a higher education degree in a business-related field. An award will be sent from PAEOP to the post-secondary institution, college or university in the name of the successful applicant, to be used for either tuition assistance or school bookstore credit

The Western Pennsylvania Facilities Directors Association Scholarship
The Western Pennsylvania Facilities Directors Association (WPFDA), a regional chapter of PASBO, awards scholarships to senior students pursuing post-secondary education at a technical school, community college, trade program, or entering the skilled trades workforce. This one-time award supports students seeking meaningful career training and community impact. The final award amount is determined by the Scholarship Committee.

Tony Rich Scholarship
The Beaver County Sportsmen Conservation League Youth Foundation awards two $2,500 Scholarships to graduating seniors who demonstrate merit, strong citizenship, and an interest in fields related to patriotism, conservation, wildlife, biology, health, or a qualified trade program. Applicants must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA and submit an essay along with a list of extracurricular and community activities.
